Meat Party

Yesterday while the storm raged outside we cut up the elk from the trip.  We were cutting up meat all day and filled up all my freezer space by the time we were finished.

Then after we were done I cooked up a roast with potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.  Philip made a blueberry pie.  Outside the trees shook and the rain came down in torrents.  We were very glad not to be stuck on North Afognak.

Philip made a 3 minute video of the hunt - see link below.

  1. Good little video, especially the beginning and the very short comedy segment. I'm pleased to see nothing of the dead beast goes to waste.

    What happens to the hide?

  2. I know a few skin sewers and sometimes I save the hide - especially if it is a mountain goat or reindeer. But we don't usually keep the elk hides. Patrick

  3. I missed welcoming the elk party home and taking a vacation day from work to help process the meat. Thanks for sharing the meat cutting party picture!
