Greens from the garden

The garden is alive! A couple of days ago I noticed that the garlic is sprouting and that the nettle sprouts are now big enough to harvest.  Pretty good to be eating of the garden by early March! In Abercrombie I noticed the first blueberry blossoms on March 3rd and yesterday I had crocuses blooming in the yard. I also noticed that the rhubarb is sprouting. And yes this is earlier than normal.  Crocuses normally bloom in early April and blueberries in mid to late April.

So it is official this winter (or lack there of) is right up there with 2010, 2015 and 2016. I checked old blog posts (here is a good one from 2016), and those winters were actually slightly worse.  In 2015 the crocuses bloomed in February! But in general the 'first blossoms' in those years are about what we got for this year.

Of course I am still rooting for winter.  I hope we get some serious cold and all those sprouts in my garden get frosted and killed.  But in the meantime, I'll harvest some nettles tonight and take some good pictures of the crocus and blueberry blossoms.
