Shuyak Survey Complete

Perevalnie Passage area on North Shuyak

Monday evening I got back from a 10 day archaeological survey on Shuyak Island. Last year year (click here for post) Molly and I started the survey of Shuyak and on Monday Philip and I finished it.  Last year we surveyed the northwest corner of the island. This year we started where we left off last year and continued clockwise around the island until we reached the cabin where we started last year's survey.

Like last year we did most of the survey on foot and transported our camp in inflatable kayaks.  This year there was a particularly imposing section of very scary coastline on the east side where we got an aerial assist from a helicopter.  We also used the helicopter to survey the largely inaccessible off shore islands.

Anyway, more on the survey in the next few days.  Shuyak Island is a spectacular place and these are some of the scenic photos that I took.
