Sunny Ski Weekend

This past weekend was a glorious one and I took advantage of the weather to climb and ski in the far back country on three straight days.  Friday I went up behind Cope (top photo) and then Saturday to the top of Sharatin.  Both of these trips were with the dogs.  Then on Sunday I returned to up behind Cope with Dale and we did multiple runs down the backside.  After the first 2 days chasing me on the downhills (the runs were up to 2 miles long) the doggies were too tired to go on Sunday.

Right now up in the high backcountry it is the best skiing of the year.  Earlier in the winter the conditions back there tend to be variable, icy, dangerous and oh so cold.  Now it is all uniform corn snow, the snow is deep, and, best of all, it is warm with lots and lots of daylight.  It really is the best time of the year for skiing back there.

And the dogs love it! When I am with the dogs I only do one run - up to the top and then back down.  But it is a LONG run down - I measured the runs at about 2 miles long each. Back at the car the dogs sleep on the way home and are mellow for the rest of the evening.  All run out and content.
