Sitkinak reminds me of the Aleutians. One often hears that the south end of Kodiak is 'treeless', and it does lack spruce trees. But the south end has plenty of cottonwoods, alder, and willow. The brush on the south end of Kodiak can be pretty bad. On the other hand, Sitkinak really is treeless, and, in this regard, just like the Aleutians.
We saw one grove of spruce trees near the runway and 'White Alice' infrastructure from the 1950s. Those trees were obviously planted by the construction workers. We also saw a few tall willow trees in one valley, but that's about it. It truly was a landscape without trees.
