Sunday Nora and I did our annual spring Sharatin ski. We first climbed up and skied Sharatin way back in 2018 (click here) and have been doing it ever since. It is Nora's favorite mountain and yesterday she told me that Sunday was her 10th time up the mountain.
It was looking a little glum in the morning and we almost did not attempt the climb and ski. But at the Pyramid parking lot our ski partners Brent and Vonn convinced us that it was worth a shot. And so we all kept on driving and climbed up Sharatin from the sea. The cloudy weather was actually appreciated because otherwise it would have been too hot, and the sun did make an occasional appearance.
There was more snow this year than we have had in a few years and certainly far more than last year even last year it was a few weeks earlier in late April (click here). It looks like this year we finally had a normal year in terms of snow on high!
Nora pointed out to me that 'this year on Sharatin we did more skiing than ever before' as we did multiple downhill laps. We did a particularly steep one down into the bowl and then skied across the bowl and went down to Shelly's Lake. We met some hikers enjoying the view and they watched us ski down to the lake. They were impressed with Nora and Vonn.
The ski down to the lake was kind of cool - down, down, down into the small little bowl. And then it was time for the ski home. At the end we actually skied pretty far down into the trees and only had a half hour hike back to the car. 6 1/2 ski tour complete!
