Sharatin Snow

Yesterday for a last 'farewell to skiing' expedition I climbed up Sharatin with the dogs to go skiing.  Pyramid is pretty much done for the year - I got my last Pyramid tracks in on the 18th.  But Sharatin still has plenty of snow. I climbed up the Red Cloud trail and got on the snow at 1900 feet and more than a mile (skinning distance) from the summit. From the summit I skied more than a mile down into the big north facing bowl and dropped down 1100 feet.  Then I climbed back up and skied back down the Red Cloud trail.  I shaved an hour off of time back to the car because I got to ski so much of the route home.

I have not gone skiing on Sharatin for a few years now.  The kids and I used to go there regularly in May and June. But for the past few years we have not.  I had forgotten how big of a world it is up there. The dogs chased me on the long ski runs and were so tired by the time we got home that they barely moved all evening.

Up there pretty much everything is still covered in snow. It is like a winter landscape except it was very sunny and hot.  I made a Youtube video that you can watch by clicking on the link below.
