The stormy pictures in this post are from last Sunday. Nora and I drove up to the pass to climb Pyramid and pick berries. But it was too nasty at the pass to even consider leaving the car, and so we drove on over and checked out the Anton Larsen Bay mudflats for bears. The weather was much better on that side of the pass and we decided to climb part way up Sharatin instead.
We climbed up to around 1200 feet and it was quite pleasant. No rain and not much wind. But when we got to 1200 feet it did start to blow, and so we turned around.
Then driving back to town we got to the pass and it was still super nasty on the town side of things. I explained to Nora that the Anton Larsen Bay side of things is in the rain shadow and that's why we were able to have a pleasant hike. Nasty on the east side and pleasant on the west side - that's a typical Kodiak weather pattern. Patrick
