Big Ice

Here on Kodiak the last few days have been warm.  So yesterday when I took the dogs skiing up the river I was happy discover that the river was still frozen solid.  A few of the ice bridges had collapsed but not many.  The cross country ski conditions were very fast, and this made for some tired dogs!

Up in the canyon the walls are turning to ice and gigantic icicles are forming.  Rivers of ice flowing down the canyon walls.  In places the ice is even blue.

Yesterday I tried to take pictures of one of the giant icicles.  It is too big to fit in the frame of my 28 mm lens, but I found I could get it all in by taking multiple pictures and stitching them together.  But the panoramic view also made the frozen waterfall seem smaller and less steep.  The bottom picture is actually 7 pictures all stitched together.
