Yesterday Nora and I got in some pretty good runs on Pyramid. The top of the mountain - above 1700 feet - is all rime and drifts, but below that the snow is pretty darn deep! It's not really powder either. It is heavy snow with a 'zipper' crust on top. It is the kind of snow that requires confidence and 'umphhhh' when making turns. There is no going slow with lots of turns. In this sort of snow turns require speed. So you have to sort of point 'em and go with it carving the turns. And then it is excellent skiing.
Saturday the lower parts of the mountain had a thicker 'breakable' crust. But by yesterday the dusting of new snow and with all the skiers breaking up the crust it was even good skiing down low.
And now, here in town, it is snowing! So the mountain is getting a re set.
