Chopped Powder

Yesterday Nora and I went skiing again, and the snow was still fantastic. Only difference from 48 hours earlier was a little wind and that, in the meantime, a lot of other people had discovered Pyramid too. But both of us also felt more energized.  Nora commented that she has way more energy for the skin up if she has not been in school all day prior to skiing.

Near the top of the climb we noticed that there were two parallel trails and that they looked like a 4 wheeler track going up the mountain.  Often the snowboarders hike in the skin track and there is only one trail, but in the last few days they have used their own trail and the skiers have theirs next to it.  It actually is a lot easier to skin up the mountain if the up track has not been pot marked with footprints.

The wind was creating cool atmospheric effects and all the nearby mountains had little clouds around their summits.  Pyramid was no different and we got to skin up into our own summit cloud. Then at the top we went over to the lee side of the mountain and there was no more wind.  And the south bowl was all sunshine (see video at bottom).  We even found a line into the south bowl that had not been tracked out.

We skied on out the '3 tree run'.  I had been the second one done this trail the day before, but by yesterday it was pretty chopped up.  'Chopped powder' conditions! All and all a GREAT day skiing.  Afterwards I even went skate skiing with the dogs and Stuey at the golf course and we caught the sunset.
