Camping with uncle Dicky and the dogs

Yesterday evening the kids, dogs and I hiked up into the alpine with Uncle Dicky to go camping.  We camped beside a small lake and had had high hopes for going swimming.  But we arrived a little late in the day for that to happen.  Instead we set up camp, lit the woodstove, and cooked up red beans and rice for dinner.  While dinner cooked we watched the sun set and the full moon rise. Our teepee had quite the view - and the moon rose red straight out of the Gulf of Alaska.

Meanwhile the dogs had to figure out the whole 'what do I do in camp thing'.  Bode had never been camping before.  Later he slept just outside the tent like a good watchdog.  Brewster prefers to get under the sleeping bag quilt. Both dogs were in and out of the teepee all night.  I woke up in the middle of the night and looked outside to see Bode and Brewster playing in the moonlight.  Play fighting standing up on their hind legs.

Then in the morning I got up in the dark, lit the fire in the woodstove, and cooked up breakfast.  There was a bit of a kid squabble, but we all still managed to enjoy the sunrise.  Overnight it had frosted hard down on the valley floor, but there was a bit of a temperature inversion and it did not frost very hard up where we were camped.

We hiked back down to the car in the sunshine.
