The Elk Crew

This is the elk hunting crew in 2022.  The top photo is missing the most important person on the whole hunt - Jim the boat skipper.  We had a pretty strong crew this year: Ray from Anchorage, Jared from Juneau, me from Kodiak, Andy from Hawaii, Philip from Kodiak, and Brooks from Juneau.  Only Jim and I have done the hunt every year since 2002.

What I like about the elk hunt crew is that no one complains or gets sore feet, and that everyone is very self sufficient.  They all have the right gear for the trip, and you don't have to worry about anyone. Also, fingers crossed, but over the years people have stayed relatively healthy on the hunt.  We have had no few injuries of any sort. Funnily enough but I think our worst injuries have been broken teeth.  So it is a good thing that these days in addition to a medical doctor we have two dentists on the crew.

I'll add that back in the day with the broken tooth lacking dental expertise we packed the tooth with the wax from a baby bell cheese.  This year I asked our dentists what they would have done and they both replied, 'packed it with baby bell cheese wax'. Oh well.

  1. That is so true about the crew. Having 6 capable people who are all carrying their equal share of the weight and work is not a common thing.
