The Newest Member of the Pack

Meet Red - the newest member of the pack.  She's an English Black Lab from the Byers Peak Kennels in Palmer.  And boy is she cute!

Yesterday I flew up to Anchorage, and my boss from work drove me up to Palmer to pick her up.  Thank you Amy!  I think Amy wants a puppy now too.

We named her 'Red' because as a puppy she had a red collar to differentiate her from her litter mates.  The name stuck because it is kinda funny to name a black dog 'Red'. Sort of like nick naming a big guy 'Tiny'.  Also a redd is a salmon nest - so there is a Kodiak connection.

So far it has been a bit chaotic at the house.  Bodi does not know what to make of Red and has been following her everywhere and playing with her.  But Bodi is gentle and I think he is happy to have a companion. Red plays back too - she lets out playful yelps and Bodi lets her bite his neck.

She also sleeps a lot.  She is very calm.  Also every time I let her outside she goes to the bathroom and has not had any accidents inside so far.  Last night getting up to let her out was a bit hard.  And then she'd whine for a while when I put her back in her crate.

Right now it is a bit chaotic, but that just the newest member of the pack getting settled in to the Saltonstall way.
