Crossing Buskin Lake on classic XC skis was pretty fun, but ripping around on the big sheet of ice in skate XC skis REALLY fun. Off of the lake surface the snow crust is still too soft to hold up a skate skier - so no skate anywhere crust cruising yet. But skate skiing on lakes is good enough for me, and super convenient. I can get in my afternoon ski without having to drive all that far.
