Pure Mutt

Nora was curious about Bode's breed and so we ordered a genetic test.  Very funny that these days they offer them for dogs!

Prior to the test I was sort of expecting mostly lab, but his perky little ears had me pretty sure he was not to be a pure lab.  Nora was mostly curious if he had a lot of small breed dog in him - she was wondering if he would stay small or get big like Brewster.

Anyway, we got the results back and it looks like Bode is pretty much a 'pure breed' Mutt.  He is really ALL mutt or as the genetic testing people put it, 'Mixed Breed'.  Basically he is 3/8 lab, 1/4 husky, 1/8 golden retriever, and 1/4 something else.  It looks to me like he had one parent that was 3/4 black lab, another parent that was 1/2 husky and everything else, and a golden retriever for a grandparent.

So he is a pure mutt.  As Nora put it, 'this means he's unique - there's not another dog in the world quite like him'.  And this is true.  There are plenty of other Brewster type dogs out there - practically every time we go for a walk in the park we run into another yellow lab much like our own Brewster (but of course Brewster is also unique in his own sweet way).  But there are no other Bode Boys out there!

Blast of cold air yesterday - 50 mph winds and last night it got down to 17 degrees!

Brewster is clearly all yellow lab!

Still deep snow at the pass - 3 feet of snow between the trees and none under them.
