After the Storm

Pretty dismal down low

Saturday's 'Christmas Bird Count' storm was pretty severe with high winds and well over an inch of precipitation.  The temperatures did manage to stay on the cool side well into evening.  So snow on high! But then, as usual, it warmed up into the mid 40's and stormed for another 12 hours.  Still, after the storm blew through, I was hopeful that there still might be snow on the mountain.  And I was right!

I climbed up Pyramid and found a good base of snow on high.  The new snow is very dense and had blown into gullies creating a ski-able base.  I stayed on top of the snow and did not sink down to the rocks on the bottom.  I actually managed to get in some fairly decent ski runs.

Let's just hope that this time the snow base finally sticks around.  Fingers crossed.

But good snow on high!

At this point climbing the mountain I was wondering why I was even carrying skis
