Our one mistake last year had been driving through Prescott and coming home on I-17. The other side of Prescott is a little disgusting with all the urban sprawl and new housing developments. But if you drive up from the Peeples Valley on Rte 89 and go no further than the main square in Prescott, and then return the same way you'd never know that Prescott is NOT a small, quaint little town in the mountains. If you go no further than the main square it is still basically the same town I remember from my first visit back in 1978.
So we drove on up to Prescott and this year I got my Peeples Valley yellow cottonwoods pictures - only they were not as brightly yellow as they had been the year before. When we got to Prescott we parked near the square and meandered over to the Italian Restaurant. I decided to text my friend Ray who recently got a place in Prescott. And then he immediately texted back and told me that our elk hunting partner Jared and his family were also up in Prescott for the day. And were also on the square eating lunch. Jared had texted Ray about Prescott hike suggestions. Anyway, it was an amazing coincidence and we met up Jared and family (see photo below). It really is amazing how many Alaska people seem to be vacationing in Arizona these days.
Anyway, our meal was GREAT - just as good as the one we had last year. And then we got a second drive through the Peeples Valley which was WAY, WAY better than I-17.
Its great that you connected with Jared and fam on the trip!
