The last warm snap ended with no new snow. All the wet snow froze hard up to at least 1800 feet (that's the highest I've climbed lately). And there no longer is snow at the golf course or anywhere close to sea level. So to get exercise Stuey and I have been skate skiing and ice skating. I'll cover the skate skiing in this post.
I actually prefer the skate skiing because you get more exercise. Ice skating is just too easy and unless you have a huge lake to explore it gets a little boring just going around and around. But that said our skate skiing conditions are pretty appalling.
Stuey and I have been climbing up around 300 feet from the pass to a plateau that is somewhat flat and has snow of a sort. It is all wind eroded crust. But the skis can edge in somewhat. In any case, it is rocket ship fast and very bumpy. One rattles along in a noisy fashion. It is very exciting. And I think it is also very good for Stuey's skate skiing technique.
