Life on Afognak

During our recent trip to Afognak Stuey and I spent a lot of time in the teepee. But we did not spend ALL our time in the teepee.  Even on the truly ugly days at the beginning of the trip we went for walks in the rain.  Another activity on the rainy days was collecting firewood.  And then back at camp we would saw and split it all up for feeding the wood stove.

The wood stove kept us warm and would dry everything off after we got back from one of our excursions in the rain. The wood stove made teepee time cozy and even enjoyable.  For lunch we made quesadillas on the wood stove.  I thought about what it would have been like without a wood stove. We would have had to hibernate in our sleeping bags.

But then the sun did come out, and the last 4 days were spent mostly outside.  We cleared a trail and climbed a mountain, we went kayaking, we checked on archaeological sites, but mostly we just hung out on the beach and continued to read our books. We would light a fire in the late afternoon and cook brats.  We also cooked pre marinaded deer ribs - and this was a hit.

Nothing quite like a day on the beach.  Life was good!

Just below is a video I made of our teepee when the weather was at its worst.

We had to turn back on one hike when we could not cross this creek

we kept the teepee well stocked with firewood
