Final Costa Rica vacation post and it isn't even about Costa Rica. It is the pictures from our last, and unexpected, extra day of vacation spent in Los Angeles.
On the way home we cleared customs in LA and rushed back to get back on what I believe may well have been same Alaska Airlines plane that flew us to LA from San Jose. But we arrived a little too late and they had already given our seats away. And the ticket agent tells us there are no more planes to Alaska for over a day. After midnight in the LA airport and we have to decide what to do. She tells us we have the option of spending an extra day in Seattle or LA. It was an easy choice - the extra day in Seattle entailed spending the rest of the night in the LA airport. And so we took a shuttle to the LA Airport Hilton.
The next morning we woke up in LA - Good Morning LA! We had an excellent breakfast and decided to go to Santa Monica. There is an Apple Store there and we needed a new iPad. Also there is the beach and in books I've read Santa Monica is always a happening place. The hotel staff approved our plan and told us it is only a 20 cab drive away. And so off we went.
We had a great time. It was a beautiful day and at Santa Monica there is a great big beach and promenade along the sea. Even palm trees! First we checked out the open air mall and got our new iPad. We walked along Santa Monica Boulevard and I got the Cheryl Crow song stuck in my head - 'beer buzz in the morning', 'all the pretty people washing their cars'. It was the theme song of the morning for me. I had never been to LA, and yet here I was on the very streets whose names I recognized from songs!
We walked out onto the pier and had iced drinks, and got in 2 rides on the roller coaster. We ate lunch at seafood restaurant that featured in the LA detective novels I've been reading lately. The kids even commented, 'maybe next time we should go on a vacation to LA'. Not a bad idea. Patrick
