One of the highlights of our time at Manuel Antonio was a river rafting trip down the Savegre River. in the brochure the river was described as class II & III and I thought that meant a pretty mild float. I envisioned bucolic float through the countryside. What we got was more of a roller coaster ride down a canyon. We bored down slots with standing waves that broke over the whole boat. Total excitement and the kids loved it! Nothing bucolic about it at all.
We drove to the start of the trip in a converted flatbed truck. Basically they put seats and an open canopy onto the back of a flatbed truck. I loved driving through all the small villages - each one with its church, soccer field and small school. And then up through the rain forest in the canyon as we got near where we put into the river with the rafts.
Halfway down the river we put in at a small creek and walked up to a waterfall. There was a fairly deep pool at the base of the waterfall, and we had a swim. It was like getting into an industrial sized washing machine on rinse cycle, and put a smile on both Nora and Stuey's faces. Patrick
