April

It's April, and on Kodiak that generally means Spring and Winter at the same time.  Last week it was warm and the crocuses were blooming.  This week is cold, and Tuesday we got 6 inches of snow at the house.  But even when it is cold the sun is so strong these days.  Anything south facing unfreezes right away during the day.  Also while in the morning the roads were totally snow covered by afternoon they were all black (except in the shady spots).

Spring is here but winter still has claws.

Tuesday morning I went skate skiing on the flats above Buskin Lake.  The snowstorm was just starting and there was 1-2 inches of powder on top of the crust.  It was perfect skate skiing.  Then in the afternoon I skied the storm on Pyramid with the kids (post to come).

Condition on the Upper Buskin before the storm - GREAT crust cruising
