These pictures are from earlier in the week. On Monday the mountain was a sheet of ice and Nora and Stuey had a hard time even getting their skins to grip on the climb up the Mountain. But as Stuey put it, 'I don't mind ice because at least it is easy to turn'. He also likes that it is easy to slide slip on ice. No one likes the frozen ruts that come with icy conditions though, and it is so loud. If you stop and listen you can hear the other skiers making an amazing amount of noise.
But on Tuesday we got a snowstorm. By the time we headed up in the afternoon there was already around 3 inches of evenly distributed snow covering all the ice. And it was snowing HARD. It was also pretty windy, but no where near as windy as it got during the peak of the storm. The skiing was actually pretty good. In fact, as we found out the next day, it was better ski conditions during rather than after the storm. When we went up Wednesday (post to come) the wind had blown most places bare of snow and had created enormous snow drifts.
Sometimes it pays to 'ski the storm'.
