Sandy Snow

Yesterday when I went skiing it was cold and windy and the snow was like sand.  The sky was hazy with blown snow particles, and you could see mare's tails of blowing snow streaming off of the mountain tops.

It does not generally get all that cold in Kodiak; so I had forgotten that cold snow is slow snow.  Also wind breaks snowflakes apart and so the wind blown snow is all sharp little points - and also very slow.

So I slowly squeaked around on my little course, tried to keep warm, and enjoyed the views.  And I appreciated that I live on Kodiak and not in Interior Alaska where such cold snow conditions are more typical.  Patrick
